Ways to Contribute

Annual Appeal
Gifts to NFA’s Annual Appeal are unrestricted funds which supplement the school’s annual budget and support a wide range of enhancements.  Each year, at the discretion of the administration, funding from the Annual Fund is allocated to the school’s spiritual and academic formation of our students, staff professional development, the upkeep and improvement of the physical plant buildings and grounds, tuition assistance, and the investment fund.  Contributions to the Annual Fund are tax-deductible.  Online gifts are gratefully accepted: VISA, MasterCard, and American Express. Just click on the DONATE NOW button below and you will be directed to our secure credit card processing center.

Matching Gifts
Donors employed by companies with matching gift programs are encouraged to make use of these opportunities when making their contributions to NFA.  Personal gifts to the school can be doubled and sometimes tripled by this employee benefit.  To see a list of Matching Gift companies, please click here  OR, check with your employer to see if they participate

Gifts of Appreciated Securities
Gifts to NFA may be made in the form of appreciated stocks and securities.  This type of donation can provide the donor with significant tax advantages.  Please contact the Mission Advancement Office at 215-247-3811 ext. 207 or development@norfon.org for more information.

Planned Giving
The simplest and most familiar way to make a planned gift is to name NFA as a beneficiary in your will.  After providing for heirs, donors may wish to include the school in their estate plans.  A personal attorney, accountant, tax advisor, or the Mission Advancement Office can provide information on how to designate a charitable bequest of NFA.  Please contact the Mission Advancement Office at 215-247-3811 ext. 207 or development@norfon.org for more information.

When making a contribution to NFA, donors may honor or memorialize a special person or event.  A letter will be sent from the Academy to the designated individual informing them of your generosity. For more information or to make a donation please contact the Mission Advancement Office at 215-247-3811 ext. 207 or development@norfon.org.

Giving FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.I receive letters and phone calls from Norwood-Fontbonne Academy each year requesting my participation in the Annual Appeal.  What is the Appeal?
A. The Annual Appeal refers to gifts made for the express purpose of helping to enhance the Academy’s resources and further the mission of the school.  Ordinarily, donors renew these gifts on a yearly basis.

Q. How are these gifts used?
A. Annual Appeal gifts are unrestricted, which means that the donor allows the Academy to determine the areas of the budget that are most in need of funding. Each year, funds raised through the Annual Appeal are used to augment the Academy’s annual budget. Basically, Annual Appeal gifts bridge the gap between tuition revenue and actual budgetary expenses.

Q.Who supports the Annual Appeal?
A. Last year ~ parents, grandparents, alumni, corporations, foundations and friends of Norwood- Fontbonne Academy who share in the Academy’s mission and vision gave through the Annual Appeal. For the past 10 years, the Annual Appeal has continued to raise more money and garner increased participation among all constituents.

Q.What are some of the projects the Annual Appeal has supported in recent years?
A. Some of the projects:

  • Spiritual Formation and Service Learning
  • Cutting Edge Technology: 1:1 Computing across all Subjects, STEM, SmartPanels, iPads, Educational Applications expand learning
  • Campus Preservation: Physical Plant, Building, and Grounds Improvements
  • Signature Curriculum Enhancements: Curriculum Materials updated each year
  • Tuition Assistance
  • Staff Professional Development: Conferences, Training, Teambuilding
  • Athletic Programs and Co-Curricular Programs

Q.What is the difference between philanthropic giving and event sponsorship?
A. A philanthropic gift is an outright gift that is usually 100% tax deductible.  Event sponsorship (e.g. auction) is a gift for which the donor receives some kind of benefit.  For tax purposes, the value of the benefit must be subtracted from the gift.

Q. Do corporations support the Annual Appeal?
A. Many corporations contribute to independent schools by matching their employees’ gifts.  These generous offerings by the companies are important ways of allowing the Academy to become known throughout the area and also increasing the Academy’s resources. Click here  for a list of Matching Gift Companies.

Q.How important is the Annual Appeal to Norwood-Fontbonne Academy?
A. It is an essential revenue stream to the overall budget of the Academy. Without the Annual Appeal, the Academy would not have the necessary funding to maintain its historical campus buildings and grounds, improve classroom spaces, update curriculum materials, and stay ahead of the curve with technological advances, physical plant improvements, etc.

Q.How much Annual Appeal support does Norwood-Fontbonne Academy need?
A. This can change from year to year. The goal is determined by the overall budgetary plan and the Facilities Committee recommendations. A short answer to this question is as much as possible.  Our yearly goal is for 100% participation in the Appeal by all staff, alumni, and parents.

Q.How much should I give to the Appeal?
A. Your investment is entirely up to you. We ask you to participate and to give what you can towards our goal. Any and all gifts are important and greatly appreciated.
